The remodel begins . . .

We recently decided to do a fairly extensive remodel on our house. We had thought about selling and buying something more finished, but decided that with the market the way it is that wouldn't be a good idea. Phase I is to gut the upstairs and put in a bathroom and master bedroom. We're going to put in a dormer in the front so the bathroom will be big enough and won't have slanted ceilings. So far Stefan has cleared out the upstairs (which was used for storage) and torn out most of the sheetrock and paneling. He is doing most of the work himself, with his friend Kevin who has done a lot of general contracting work and is now a painter/handyman. It will be a learning process! I've posted some pictures of what the house looked like when we bought it and what it looks like now and I'll post progress pictures as we have them. Phase II will be to remodel the downstairs bathroom, which desperately needs it, and the kitchen as well as some new paint and carpet in the bedrooms. That's a pretty long way off though - probably not until summer.
